PRAISE AND PRAYER ITEMS
May 2011
- Thanks the Lord for safety in travel during April and for good discussions
with community development students at Covenant College and those in the
Chalmers Economic Development Center who design materials for micro
finance training. - I also had some very good discussions at Mission to the World
headquarters. I will be leading a seminar there the week of Aug. 15 for
some of the office staff, missionaries, some involved in refugee
resettlement etc. Pray that those whom the Lord wants to come will be
able to do so. Some of the challenges involve adapting principles to
short term missions, medical missions, grass roots theological
education, etc. - On May 18 I plan to fly to Johannesburg S. Africa and on May 20 continue
on to Madagascar where I will team teach a seminar with folks who want
to be involved in transformational development all over Madagascar. Then
I will do a part 2 seminar for those who have begun simple programs
after the seminar I led 2 years ago. - June 7 I will fly to Lesotho and do the same thing again. Lord willing I
will begin my journey home on June 20 and arrive in Chicago June 21. - Continue to pray for those on the ground in both Madagascar and Lesotho as they
make plans for my visit and sort out who should come to the various
seminars. - Pray for those in Madagascar who are translating the lessons into Malagasy
in preparation for my visit – they want to be ready to see this way of
thinking multiplied throughout the island. - In the next 2 weeks I have many details to arrange before leaving –
including writing a couple more lessons – one on unraveling dependency
and a couple more on teaching methods for motivating adults to begin
sustainable programs. - A few days ago I received a very encouraging report from the IDP
(Internally displaced people) camp in Kenya. My Kenyan colleagues did
some teaching on leadership; several M*lims not only finished the course
but found it very helpful as they were treated with respect. The
leaders of the camp took ownership of the failures and are now committed
to serve their people. - The week end of May 14 my colleagues in Kenya will be doing a mini seminar for a group of missionaries.
- Please note that, because of busy schedules and sporadic internet connections,
I will probably not write another praise and prayer list until the end
of June, shortly after I return from Africa.
